When we were kids, it was normal to spend all day outside. Childhood memories revolved around hiking in the woods or cooking S’mores around the campfire. Families could afford to go on long road trips because tenting it made it cheaper and gas prices were much lower then. Cities and towns were less crowded and you didn’t have to worry about your kids being gone all day, exploring the fields and mountains on their own.
With our generation, things have changed. Too much screen time and too much television. We work too hard just to pay the bills. We can’t just walk out the front door and have the woods in front of us because now it’s a neighbor’s backyard. Not only has our culture changed, but so have our surroundings. National parks and camping have become bucket list items instead of traditions. Those memories, skills and traditions are becoming lost.
We want to bring all of that back. We don’t want fancy gear, forgotten skills or the culture today to stop us or you from creating these memories. We want people to get outside, have fun and be active again.
Does this sound like a manifesto? It is in a way. We want people to be happy and healthier. David and I do not want you to forget or let go of what America’s real pastime is, being outdoors. We hope that you will join us weekly for tips, interviews, memories and more. We hope our passion for the outdoors rubs off on you just a little. You’ll be able to listen to us weekly on Tuesdays for a little outdoors fun. First pod cast should be up July 1st.
We hope you become part of our journey as we learn along the way. And if we just inspire one person to take a walk or play in the park or impulsively go car camping with nothing but hotdogs and a sleeping bag, that is all we are asking for. David and I are a little quirky and weird, but we love being outside with our kids more than anything making memories. Be sure to check out our About Us page to get to know us a little more. Let’s have some fun storming the castle!!
